Current-distorted wave diffraction patterns in the near-field of a monopile in coastal seas

The analyses from insightful model tests in our 3D wave-current basin have been published today in Elsevier's Journal of Ocean Engineering!

📈 Based on what is a very common application case from offshore wind energy - a (large!) monopile in 90° wave-current interaction - we analysed the current-influence on diffraction patterns occurring in the monopile nearfield for increasing pile diameters. The resulting asymmetric distortion of the wave field may well be a non-negligible factor in the force estimation and design of future mega-monopiles.
