  • Scientific analysis of the spread of a flood wave in the event of a dyke failure on the Elbe in the municipality of Hadeln
The Ludwig Franzius Institute is conducting a study on behalf of the district of Cuxhaven to reassess the risks in the event of a local dyke breach. The aim is to gain valuable insights by simulating the spread of a potential flood wave in order to optimise evacuation plans and disaster relief measures. The study uses current geodata and state-of-the-art scientific methods to enable a more precise assessment of the risk to areas and to better understand the effects of climate change on the probability of flooding.
Led by: Prof. Dr-Ing. T. Schlurmann
Team: Dr.-Ing. Mario Welzel, Dr.-Ing. Christian Jordan
    Year: 2024
    Funding: Landkreis Cuxhaven
    Duration: 08/2024 – 05/2025
