BoucheDuRoi - Modelling of the stability of the revetment and the toe protection of a breakwater under wave and current loads at the mouth of the Mono River in BeninDue to high morphological activity in the study area, the mouth of the Mono River shifts regularly, often leading to the closure of the estuary area with significant impacts on both local settlements as a result of backwater and flooding during seasonal high flows, and on local biodiversity. The Benin government has therefore decided, with the support of the World Bank, to find a permanent solution to stabilise the estuary opening and thus ensure the long-term flow of the Mono River. To this end, conceptual studies and numerical investigations into basic feasibility were carried out to enable this area to function fully as a drainage system for the Mono River's river-lagoon system and to avoid the risk of flooding upstream villages. The Ludwig Franzius Institute (LuFI) at Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) is involved in this project with the planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation of 2D and 3D model tests to determine the stability of the revetment and the scour protection of the breakwaters under wave and current loads at the mouth of the Mono River, the Bouche du Roy, in Benin.Led by: Dr.-ing.
