On June 22, 2026, Johanna Schumacher (Leibniz University Hannover), Franka List (Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel), and Michael Fink (University of Hamburg) presented the sea4soCiety project at Kieler Woche.

As part of the “Kieler uni live” event, they spoke at the Kiel Marine Science (KMS) Pagoda about the importance of seagrasses, salt marshes, algae, and mangroves for climate and coastal protection. Interactive elements such as our LEGO wave channel, a coastal memory game, and coloring activities invited interested visitors to participate, explore, ask questions, and discuss.

The sea4soCiety consortium contributes to our understanding of vegetation-rich coastal ecosystems, which forms the basis for increasing these ecosystems’ capacity to absorb and store greenhouse gases.
